Research Travelling support scholarship to Italy, for Flinders University postdocs and postgraduate fellows

Award provided by ARIA-SA and the Italian Benevolent Foundation (IBF), Adelaide.

Purpose: Open to Flinders University postdocs and postgrad fellows, the aim is to attract those with an outstanding track record of academic achievement and research potential to pursue research that involves interaction with Italian universities and research institutions. The aim is to foster further research collaboration between Italy and Australia. The Financial support: The contribution of up to $750 may be provided for travel (economy return airfare, other travel expenses), conference registration fee and/or accommodation.

Closing dates for the Recipient of Application: For travel commencing during the period 1 March 2014-30 September 2014, closing date: 21 February 2014.

ARIA-SA Annual General Meeting, Thursday 19 Sept 2013

ARIA-SA Annual General Meeting, Thursday 19 Sept 2013, at 6:30pm. We have secured a private room at the Pink Pig Wine Bar, 50 O’Connell St, North Adelaide, Adelaide, SA. All members are invited to participate.

The ordinary business of the annual general meeting shall be:
i. to confirm the minutes of the previous annual general meeting and of any general meeting held since that meeting; and
ii. to receive from the committee reports upon the transactions of the association during the last preceding financial year; and
iii. to elect officers of the association and the ordinary members of the committee;

EVENT: "EUROPE: CURRENT ISSUES AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS", by ARIA-SA and UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE

  • Thursday 29 August 2013, from 6 – 7:30pm, Location: Marjoribanks 126 SANTOS Lecture Theatre, Level 1, 10 Pulteney Str. (Corner Nth Terrace/Pulteney), Adelaide
  • The English language debate has been about when/how the Euro-$ would collapse, but in other cultures it has been about doing what was needed to keep it together. It was the same in the mid 90s on whether the European Monetary Union would be created at all. Well, the challenges are not over yet. And Italy is a major node of the challenges!
  • On. Marco Fedi talks about how policy makers have met the challenges so far, and what they see as the path ahead. This will be followed by a brief investment outlook by Darryl Gobbett, Chief Economist and Adviser at Prescott Securities.
  • Marco Fedi has served as Member and Secretary to the Italian Parliamentary Committees on Foreign Affairs and the European Union from June 2006 to March 2013. He is a member of the Democratic Party, representing the electorate of Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Antarctic.  He was first elected to the Italian Parliament in April 2006.  He was born in Italy and migrated to Australia (first Adelaide, then Melbourne) at the age of 25. All along, he has worked in welfare and community organisations such as FilefCoAsItCGIE. You can read his blog.

Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI), call for 32 PhD scholarships, international applicants encouraged

The newly formed “Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI)” in L’Aquila, Italy, has opened a call for applications for 32 PhD scholarships in 2013-2014. The PhD scholarships include also waivers of tuition fees, free accommodation, free luncheon vouchers and insurance cover. PhD degrees in: Astroparticle Physics, Mathematics in Natural, Social and Life Sciences, Computer Science, Urban Studies.
